It was a nail-biting finale that saw Yanga Sobetwa take the title and the more than R1 million in prizes.
Held at Carnival City, the finale of “Idols SA” season 14 saw some of the biggest names in the country take to the stage to perform.

But ultimately the night was all about 23-year-old Thato Makape from the Northern Cape and 17-year-old Yanga Sobetwa from the Western Cape.
The two battled it out, singing songs they sang during the season. Thato treated the to crowd to “Mamelani” by Naak Musiq, while Yanga performed “Not Yet Uhuru” by Letta Mbulu. They also performed Zayn Malik and Sia’s “Dusk Till Dawn”.
Last week, both Thato and Yanga released singles which they recorded in Dubai. Yanga’s “Scars” went to number 1 and Thato’s “Blow By Blow” made it to number 5.
Season 14 of “Idols SA” saw a record-breaking number of votes with more than 150 million cast.
Speaking at a press conference after the finale, Yanga said she planned on continuing studying and won’t spend any of her winnings just yet. “I’m going to freeze the million rand for now, at least for a year”, she said.
